Video editing for YouTube & ads
The edit is where a video keeps or loses its audience. I cut for the retention graph — dead air out, the hook in the first five seconds, and a reason to stay every thirty.
I ran my own YouTube channel before I edited for anyone else, which means I learned the unglamorous lesson early: the edit is not about looking clever, it is about the viewer not leaving. Every cut I make is answering the question of why someone would stay for the next thirty seconds.
I work in Premiere Pro and After Effects, on anything from a talking-head video to ad creative that needs six versions in four aspect ratios. Send me the raw footage however it comes — I have untangled worse.
What the edit includes
- A cut built for retention — dead air, filler and false starts removed, the hook moved to the first five seconds, and pacing that does not sag in the middle third.
- Captions — burned-in for Shorts and Reels where most viewing is silent, or a clean SRT file for long-form so YouTube can read it too.
- Colour and sound — correction and grading so clips shot on different days match, plus noise removal, levelling and music mixed under the voice rather than over it.
- Motion graphics — lower thirds, titles, callouts, simple animated logos and zoom-ins where they help the point land.
- Stock and B-roll — sourced and cut in where your footage has gaps, using properly licensed material only.
Formats I work in
- Long-form YouTube — 8 to 30 minutes, talking head, tutorial, vlog or documentary style.
- Shorts, Reels and TikTok — vertical 9:16, cut for the first-second hook, captions always on.
- Ad creative — Facebook, Instagram and YouTube ads, delivered in every aspect ratio the platform needs.
- Podcast and interview edits, including multi-camera cuts synced to the audio.
- Repurposing — pulling five vertical clips out of one long video, which is the cheapest content you will ever make.

Questions
Before you ask.
What software do you edit in?
Premiere Pro for the edit and After Effects for motion graphics. If you need the project file at the end so another editor can pick it up, ask and I will package it with the assets.
How do I send you the footage?
Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer — whichever you already use. Send it as it came off the camera or phone; you do not need to organise or convert anything first.
How fast is the turnaround?
Two days for short-form, four for a long-form edit, from the point the footage lands. If you have a launch date, tell me before you order and I will confirm whether it is realistic rather than agreeing and then missing it.
Do you write the script or source the footage?
I edit what you send. I will restructure and cut it hard to keep it watchable, and I can source licensed B-roll and music to fill gaps, but I don't write scripts or film original footage.
Can you make thumbnails too?
I will pick the best frame from the video and pass it over as part of the edit. If you want a designed thumbnail with text and treatment, that is the graphic design service.

No charge for a first look. Send your site, channel, footage or CV and tell me what you want to happen — I'll come back with whether I can help and what it would cost.
